Grant Letter Opening
An exciting day for the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts
On Monday May 4th a special letter opening was held at the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts. This video is from that very special event.
The Nina Haggerty Centre is getting a new home! The Province of Alberta recently approved a Major Community Facilities Grant that, together with support from the City of Edmonton, makes it possible for us to purchase the beautiful space already under construction on Alberta (118) Avenue. Hon. Minister Lindsay Blackett presented the Centre with a cheque for $750,000 on May 7. The new space will provide significantly more studio space, as well as excellent archive and art preparation areas. We are very excited about the space and also about the neighbourhood. Over 300 artists live and work in this community, and they welcome the opportunity to collaborate with our artists.

Ground Breaking Event Today with Mayor Mandel
Flagship New Build begins construction on Alberta Avenue
Edmonton Inner City Housing Society (EICHS) is developing a new multi-use building in the heart of Alberta Avenue. Located directly across from the Community League on 93rd Street, the building will house the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts (NHCA) on the main floor and create 16 condominium units that will bring new life to the Avenue and support the area’s revitalization (Avenue Initiative Strategy).
ArtsHub 118 is a partnership project between the NHCA and EICHS, with support from Delnor Construction, Rockliff Pierzchajlo Architects and the City of Edmonton.
"We believe it is important to invest in the revitalization of our neighbourhood and are excited to be embarking on this project. By partnering with the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts we are able to create a distinctive blend of arts facility and homeownership. We can’t think of a better place to do this." Debbie Saidman, President EICHS
"I commend all the partners involved in this ground breaking project," said Mayor Stephen Mandel. "Alberta Avenue is a thriving, diverse community with wonderful shops, delicious restaurants and residents making a true difference in their own community". "With the addition of the Nina Haggerty Centre and the new residences, Alberta Avenue is becoming another exciting community focal point in the Capital City."
This event is hosted by Arts on the Avenue and the Carrot Coffee House. They welcome supporters to drop by the Carrot anytime after 11:30 for refreshments. Please join us at the Carrot, then move on to the construction site for a short groundbreaking ceremony.
